Writing Outside the Lines – Prompt 50

Best Laid Plans

I found you today

laying at the bottom

of a box holding pieces

of my former life.

Lifting a stack of folded

t-shirts and jeans

there you were staring

back at me from a picture

I took in happier times

 

Your eyes held that twinkle

that still caused my heart

to rearrange its rhythm

Your smile brought back

the good memories …

those from when life

was happy and we had

plans for our future

 

Those plans long forgotten

And …

as a result my life took

a very different path …

one without you

 

Brushing away a tear

I wondered how my life…

our lives…

would have been different

had those plans been realized …
